Interviewee: Collins Yang, Branch Manager of Heilind Asia Pacific

ESM-China: In the past year, which major achievements your company has made? Compared to competitors, what are your company's unique strengths?

Collins: In the past year, we have put in place a strong infrastructure as a platform to drive our growth plan. We have now offices in HK, China and Singapore. We also have a warehouse with inventory of good depth and breadth and a Value Add Service centre in HK to support our customers in Asia. Our unique strengths is our belief in being a true channel partner to suppliers and customers, holding inventory of depth and breadth, practice of not imposing MOV on MOQ, putting up a web based inventory portal for customers to order on line and covering the whole spectrum of the distribution spectrum. I can add with this strong foundation we are now in the process of expanding our geographic footprint to serve the customers even better.

ESM-China: How do you think that the current momentum of the global electronics industry? For 2H2014 and 1H2015, what are your opinions of  the electronic market trends?

Collins: with the rebound of European and American economy, the momentum of the global electronics industry is good in 2H2014 and 1H2015, and compared with 2013, electronic component market demand is growing slowly as well. We think automotive electronics, intelligent appliance, data communication, intelligent transportation system and medical industry will have obvious increases, while growth of MID and smartphone popular in past two years will slow down.

ESM-China: From the perspective of distributors, which terminal application markets or electronic components you are most promising? Why?

Collins: automotive electronics, intelligent appliance, and data communication. With further popularization of 4G technology, people will have higher demand for net speed, in that case base station, servers and conversion equipment will be updated. Also, the trend of intellectualization and energy conservation in these market segments will bring new design demand on electronic components.

 ESM-China: What is the current major challenges your company facing? What strategies will be adopted to deal with it?

Collins: Traditional segmentation in the distribution channel is getting blurred as we see catalogue distributors moving upstream and major distributors moving downstream in the channel. As a specialized distributor for Interconnect and Electromechanical products, Heilind covers the whole distribution spectrum and therefore will face stiff competition with this change in the distribution channel. However, we are confident with our strong fundamentals and proven business approach, we will continue to be successful and make headways in the Asia market.

ESM-China: Whether you have already feel Chinese components distribution market is undergoing some kind of change? What is the cause?

Collins: compared with before, the market demand is larger, the information spreading speed is faster, and at the same time competition on service and resource is stiffer. All those have a higher request for distributor’s resource integration, innovative ability, and service consciousness, which brings the result—traditional small distributors are going to be purchased by large international authorized distributors.
