3M™ High Routability Internal miniSAS Cable Assemblies 8F36 Series utilize 3M’s new Twin
Axial Ribbon Cable to enable next generation server and storage designs
3M is now offering a revolutionary way to connect devices using Mini Serial Attached SCSI or miniSAS connectors inside equipment. The new cable assembly from 3M is designed for 'pizza box' design equipment and single board computers used in enterprise computing. Space in these platforms is severely constrained in terms of height, width and breadth. Inside, systems are typically densely populated with boardlevel components, heat sinks, sub-assemblies such as disk drives, fans or UPS, which severely restrict space for routing cable assemblies to connect up the component parts.
Routability Internal miniSAS Cable Assemblies 8F36 Series, which utilize the industry’s first
known flat, foldable and longitudinally-shielded high performance twin axial ribbon cable products,
also from 3M. The miniSAS cable assemblies will be available through 3M Interconnect Solutions
franchised Distributors.
The flat, foldable and pliable design of the 8F36 Series high performance cable assemblies utilizes 3M’s ultra-low-profile, high speed, high signal density Twin Axial Ribbon Cable SL8800
Series, making this new assembly from 3M less than half the thickness of conventional miniSAS.
Due to the attributes of the SL8800 Series cable, the 8F36 Series cable assembly is ideal for spaceconstrained
electronic systems and can easily route along the sides of cabinets and through narrow
openings between fans or heat sinks. Additionally, the 8F36 Series cable assembly:

Exceeds the 6 Gbps performance standard designated by SAS 2.0 requirements

Can be folded and bent in multiple locations with a bend radius as low as 1 mm and still meet SAS 2.0
performance criteria

Is available with or without sidebands

Is available with silver or tin plated signal conductors and solid polyolefin dielectric

Is RoHS compliant and halogen-free
