FCI Develops SOFIX® I/O Connectors For ADSL And VDSL

ETTERS, PA (August 3, 2006) — FCI has developed SOFIX® cable and board connectors for high-speed xDSL communications and data links. The adaptation of shielded SOFIX interconnects for ADSL links provides EMC-protected, long-distance links and further expands the applications for SOFIX technology.

The SOFIX I/O interconnection system consists of right-angle PCB headers and cable connectors, suitable for the distribution of signals or power. Signal connectors provide high-density, shielded, and high-speed connections, making them ideal for use in communications and data equipment. The complete range of SOFIX products can be customized for specific applications where robust internal cable, wire-to-board or external I/O connections are needed.

"FCI is the only supplier that can completely satisfy the demanding requirements for the ADSL and VDSL markets with a fully shielded 2mm I/O system," says Franck Lahoreau, product manager for FCI. "Our custom SOFIX solutions have been tested at great length in real-world scenarios and are currently used for 10/100 BaseT and 1000 BaseT interfaces by one of the largest wireless equipment suppliers. With custom pin assignments, the SOFIX I/O system has shown cross-talk performance of less than -55dB in VDSL 20 MBit/s applications."

SOFIX 4x6 signal connectors feature densities up to 96 lines per 10cm on 20mm slot pitch and 25mm connector pitch. 2x4 signal connectors provide 45 lines per 10cm on 15mm slot pitch and 17.5mm connector pitch. The connectors are fully shielded down to the PCB level and support a wide range of cable types and diameters. Customers can specify SOFIX PCB connectors for either wave- or "pin-in-paste" reflow-solder termination and cable plugs with either IDC (Insulation Displacement Contacts) or solder cable termination.
