Molex Pico-Clasp Wire-to-Board Connectors Offer Space Saving Solutions for Flat Panel Display Systems

LISLE, Ill. – June 27, 2007 – Industry estimates show that flat panel display (FPD) 2006 revenues exceeded $84 billion, amounting to a 13 percent increase from last year. The micro technology behind this growing industry allows television and computer monitors to be smaller in weight and size and is constantly driven by new marketplace demands. To meet these demands, Molex Incorporated has introduced the Pico-Clasp™ single and dual row wire-board connectors.

As the smallest pitch connector for positive lock wire-to-board crimp systems available, the Pico-Clasp family offers space saving solutions in applications such as plasma display panel (PDP) TVs, liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs, Notebook PCs and other compact devices, where small sizes are an industry standard. This new 1.00mm (.039”) pitch wire-to-board connector system is compact, and its small circuit size makes it ideal for any compact FPD system. Versions with an inner positive lock provide latch protection and secure mating confirmation and reliability compared to most traditional outer-lock styles. Positive lock versions are available in 6 to 50 circuits.

Versions with outer positive locks are available in 3 to 5 circuits and provide strong mating retention along with a clear audible click when all connectors are in place. Low mating and unmating forces allow for easy connector insertion and extraction. The system is offered in both single and dual row versions and friction and positive locking optiosn are available for various application needs. In addition, the wide header variations provide customers with many choices and overall design flexibility.

Other features of the Pico-Clasp family include mating guides, solder tabs and footprint compatibility with some competitive versions.
