Molex Impact Reference Backplane Achieves 15 Gbps NRZ over 1.0 Meter Channel Using Avago Technologies’ 65nm Embedded SerDes

LISLE, Ill. – March 31, 2008 – Molex Incorporated successfully achieved a significant milestone in real system performance by transferring more than 15 Gbps NRZ signal transmissions over a 1.0 meter channel. The Molex Impact(TM) reference backplane, with Avago Technologies’ 65nm embedded SerDes over combined laminates, generated and recovered 15 Gbps signals through an aggregate of 0.25 meters of FR4, 0.27 meters of FR408 and 0.5 meters of Nelco-N4000-13SI.

This real-world scenario proves that the Impact reference backplane provides system and chip design teams an improved method of predicting a component's performance capabilities in data networking or telecommunications systems.

The Impact reference backplane system is a multi-variable design tool that incorporates different routing designs, multiple antipad and launch styles and several plated through-hole lengths and diameters. It is built with a full range of differential PCB channel lengths and coupling options, allowing designers to manipulate the key design variables that greatly influence the transmission quality from transmitter to receiver. Additionally, bottom and top channel routings evaluate transmission performance throughout the board height, while the "Loop-Back" feature allows for the test and design of outboard components, such as I/O connectors.

Impact reference backplanes are available now.
