TE Connectivity has released its SFP+ product family, which extends the use of the Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) interconnect up to 10 Gb/s. This system meets the performance requirements of SFF (Small Form-Factor) specification SFF-8431 and supports 8G Fibre Channel and 10G Ethernet applications. The SFP+ product family includes cages, connectors, and copper cable assemblies.

Cages are being offered in single port, ganged, and stacked configurations with integrated connectors. The ganged SFP+ cages include designs with EMI springs or elastomeric gasket. Stacked cages include integrated connectors and offer a one-step press-fit application. One-degree mount cages are also offered for PCI applications. Heatsinks and light pipes are available as options.

The 20 position enhanced Surface Mount (SMT) connector is designed for the higher data rates and maintain compliance with the original SFP MSA, making it a drop-in replacement.

Copper cables provide a cost-effective solution for short reach applications. Active and passive equalization are offered, with a simple pull-to-release latch mechanism. The plug features comply with SFF-8432, which defines the pluggable module for SFP+.
